Bian – a house of the Taian branch especially renowned for their magic

Braelyn – Lyrnis’s holdings

Calel – first lord son (noble son who is not in a direct line of inheritance)

Callian – first of the three main branches in the Moranaian government system

clechtan – a curse word similar to ‘damn.’

(rarely used to begin words.  H appears mostly as a marker of a lengthened vowel or to change the sound of a c {as in the Scottish loch})

hy – I (The h is mostly silent.  It serves to extend and slightly emphasize the vowel sound of the y and also adds a slight aspiration to the vowel.)

i – in titles: used to separate the title and the personal name.  in phrases: is/are

i’ – making into being, is (used before verbs, especially in the primary position, as a magical marker.)

Ialn – eleventh month in the elven calendar, falls in the season of Morne

ia’ – in formal titles, shows the main branch from which the person’s sub-branch    

     originates.  will always be followed by a ducal title.

Imene – sacred tree of Megelien

Isilat – word meaning roughly “in progress.” Used by artisans in shop as a polite way to   

     say that they are in the middle of a delicate process

iy’ – indicates membership in a branch for those who are not in a main leadership

     position

Iyen – sixteenth and last month of the elven calendar, falls in the season of Pioren

iyn – third sub-branch from the main branch


K

kehren – a type of fruit native to Moranaia

kehy – a grammar marker which shows that the following phrase is meant to modify the 

     entire preceding clause rather than a single word.

key – a grammar marker which shows that the following phrase modifies the entire preceding sentence including clauses

Kelore – fourth duke

kinari – Moranaian grain used for bread. Ripens late summer.

Meridar – The second moon of Moranaia

Meyanen – God of love and relationships (can include combative relationships)

mialn – beloved (used for mate or lover)

miaran – iron (literal).  used commonly as an expletive

Mierorn – mate to the firstborn son of the monarch (not heir)

mor – bless (verb)

Moranai – begins the title for the royal family, denoting the head of all three branches

Moranaia – name of the nation of elves inhabiting the place Arlyn goes to meet her

     father.  Also the name of their world.

Morch – second month in the elven calendar, falls in the season of Tlelt

Morne – sixth out of eight seasons, equivalent to late fall

mornia – terminal branch off the Kelore node, Selia’s branch

Myal – mate to female heir

Myern – 3rd duke

Myerna – 3rd duchess

Myernere – mother of the 3rd duke or duchess

na – of (used to form the possessive)

nac-mor – same being (when in subject position)

nach-more – same being (when used in a clause)

nach-mor – same being (when in an object position)

nai – of, from (in titles, separates the personal and family name from the location of the

    person’s holdings)

Slenore – second out of eight seasons, equivalent to late spring

Sonal – A specific function in the Moranaian military responsible for scouting the forest and for covert missions.  The Taysonal and Tayianeln fall under this branch.

Tayern – 2nd lord son (the second son of a noble)

Tayerna – 2nd lady daughter (the second daughter of a noble)

Taysonal – A scout who works directly for the head of a branch in some specific capacity.  Similar to a Captain but with no one under their command.  In Dianore family, this person traditionally acts as a diplomat for the Myern.

Toren – fourth of eight seasons, equivalent to late summer

Torinar – first of the two moons of Moranaia

Tren – fourth month of the elven calendar, falls in the season of Slenore

Trine – sixth month of the elven calendar, falls in the season of Bordiale
